Leeds for Life: new funding opportunity for Schools and Services - Thu, 31 Mar 2011

Developing New Opportunities for Student Skills Development

  • High quality proposals are invited now to undertake projects to develop and embed new opportunities for students to develop the skills promoted through Leeds for Life.

  • Up to 7 projects to develop new opportunities will be funded, each at a maximum cost which would normally not exceed £5K.

Background
Leeds for Life stresses the value to students of taking opportunities to develop skills as part of their overall experience of being at the University.  These opportunities are provided both by academic departments and by a wide range of co-curricular providers based in staff and student run organisations and services on campus.

In order to broaden the range of opportunities available to students a small amount of pump-priming funding is now available. The funding is provided by the Alumni Annual Fund, supported by donations from former students and friends of the University of Leeds, and the University’s Academic Development Fund. Project proposals are welcome from schools and services, all categories of staff, staff/student groups and student-led organisations.

Guidelines

Closing date for applications is Wednesday 1st June 2011

HEFCE Consultation on public information about higher education - Tue, 25 Jan 2011

All staff are invited to contribute to the University’s response to the consultation by HEFCE on proposals to provide a set of publicly available information to enable prospective students to choose the university that is best for them, by:

  • giving prospective students useful information about higher education courses and the student experience (in the form of a Key Information Set – ‘KIS’);
  • improving accessibility to the information that higher education institutions publish about their courses and which is used for quality assurance; and
  • developing the National Student Survey.

The outcome of the consultation will be published in Summer 2011, with a planned deadline of the start of the 2012/2013 academic year for each university to publish its Key Information Set (KIS) in order to inform the decisions of entrants for 2013.

The full consultation document is available via the link, below.

To contribute to the University’s response, please address the specific questions in the consultation document (as set out in Annex A to that document). Please send your reply to David Gardner (d.gardner@leeds.ac.uk) by Wednesday 16th February. David can also provide the consultation questions to you by email.
